Description
The Mishna in Masechet Avot Chapter 1:6-7 codifies the teachings of Yehoshua ben Perachya & Nitai HaArbeili. We will demonstrate that the former, in his role as Nasi (Prince), will teach Love, how to do good. The latter Tanna, in his capacity as Av Beis Din, will teach us how to avoid evil, fear. We will move on to study the statements quoted in the name of Hillel. Why does Rebby, in organizing the Mishnayos, split the sayings of Hillel, some are in the first Perek of Avot, others in the second chapter. We will begin our attempt at understanding the personality of Hillel.
