Description

How are we permitted to enunciate the name of God in a greeting to our fellow man? The basis for the license is "Et LaAsot LaShem", and this serves to change the original prohibition. The Me'iri & Ritva in Berachot will explain the educational goal of greeting a Jew with the Name of HaSHem. We will study the authority of the Great Sanhedrin to establish Takanot, Gezeirot & Minhagim, as described by the Rambam in the opening Halachot of Mamrim. Rabbenu Yona will demonstrate why the Rabanan institute gzeirot & takanot to prevent us from serious violations. Should an individual set up his own personal "fences"? Can I decide that a particular gzeira apply to me?
