In the previous shiur we established that according to Rif, Rambam & Rashba, in the 3 cases of Af Hen Hayu, Megilla, Chanuka, & Daled kosot, the element of pirsum haNes is essential & indispensable. Without it one would be required to repeat the mitzva. Each of these 3 mitzvot encompass both the mechanical peula as well as the inner moment, the experience of re-enacting the miracle. According to the Ba'alei HaTos', however, daled kosot can be fulfilled without the Kiyum She'ba'lev. The chiddush of Rav Soloveichik (in the shiur we gave earlier today) will not work for Tos'. Even in the case of Megilla, it might be that the mechanical act of hearing the Kri'ah would suffice. We will suggest an alternative definition of the way Af Hen works.
