Can Af Hen Hayu precipitate an obligation upon women re: tefillin, Matzah, and Sukka? In these mitzvot the historical miracle serves as the background & reason for the mitzvah; since women were part of the miracle shouldn't they be included in the obligation to commemorate the miracle? In this shiur, we will present a new approach to classify mitzvot that have a historical framework. Based on the chiddush of Rav Moshe Soloveichik, we will offer an answer to the questions regarding tefillin, matzah & Sukka. We will see in the next shiur that while the approach of Reb Moshe works for the Rif, Rambam & Rashba, all of whom view pirsumei nisa as indispensable to the kiyum haMitzva; but Shitat HaTos' will require a different approach.
