Description

The basis for obligating women in certain time bound mitzvot is established in Masechet Megila & Psachim through the principle of Af Hen Hayu BeOso Nes. The latter applies to those mitzvot which commemorate a historical experience and women were an integral part of that experience. In this shiur we wish to investigate the authority of this principle. Would it apply to a mitzva de'oraita or only to a mitzva derabanan? Does it engender a Torah obligation or only a Rabbinic one? How could this principle apply to the mitzva of Matza, of Sukka, and of Haggada?
