The Magen Avrahum (452:1) notes that sometimes chametz is considered Nat bar Nat diHetayra (when purging with scalding water, before the 5th hr Erve Passover). But sometimes chametz is considered issurah (when cooking non-chametz food in chametz vessel b.y. even before the 5th hr). The Mordechai (sof Az) says to purge a spit that had kosher meat roasted into itself one need not use libun chamur (heating with fire until sparks jump off the metal). Since the meat is hetayrah the spit can be purged by libun kal (heating with fire until metal is yad soledes bo) or by scalding water.
