Description

The Avnei Nezer asks how Rashi could use the same phrase about the Egyptians unity that he does next week to describe the Jewish people- ‘with one hear, as one person’. He explains that their unity was different than ours: they first had their individual desire- ‘one heart’ and then through that they unified under a common mission- to get the Jews. But we were committed to each other first ‘like one person’, then we collectively aspired for our mission- ‘with one heart’- to accept the Torah. We also explained from Reb Chanoch of Aleksander the sweetness of the ‘water’ came through their intolerance of the bitterness.
