In our introduction to our study of Hilchos Shabos, we will offer additional examples of the unique Halachos of מלאכת שבת: permanence in writing, building & dyeing, the professional act of opening a boil & tying a knot, the possibility that Chatzi Shiur in מלאכת שבת. We will wonder how long a מלאכה has to last in order to considered מתקיימת, permanent? What about dying a double knot, is permanence the only condition for מלאכת קושר? What makes writing permanent? If one removed a single hair or writes a single letter, has he violated a Torah prohibition of Chatzi Shiur? To make braids, to lance a boil, to write with disappearing ink.
