The sugya in Masechet Niddah 5a addresses the question of what is the minimum age for a young girl to be included in the גזירת כתמים? Two different terms are you by the sugya to answer this question. One phrase indicates that she became a גדולה, meaning she has both שנים & סימנים. Another phrase seems to indicate that even before she has reached that stage she is included in כתמים. Rashi goes on record as saying that even without סימנים she is included in כתמים. The Beis Yosef in Siman #190 quotes the Rashba who requires both שנים & סימנים. We seek to reconcile what appears to be a contradiction in Rashi re: a תנוקת who was not exposed to a שוק של טבחים or the like & we are certain that the כתם is דם מגופו.
