We continue our study of the beginning of Perek אין עומדים, Masechet Berachot 30b. Why does the sugya tell us two almost identical stories about a Rebby who warned his Talmid about excessive joy & laughter? In both case the Talmid responded that he (the talmid) was wearing Tefillin? What is the relevance of Tefillin? The central theme of this Gemorah is the integration of joy & fear in the service of Hashem. Should one violate בל תשחית by smashing an object for the sake of castigating one's friends? Why is it problematic to derive כובד ראש from Chana or Dovid? Should one wear stunning clothing for prayer?
