In this shiur for Masechet Ketuvot 7a, we will study the question of: בעילה ראשונה בשבת וביום טוב. In this context we will introduce and analyze the concept אוכל נפש which defines the fundamental difference between Melacha on Yom Tov vs. Shabbat. The principle formulated by Beis Hill, מתוך, becomes crucial. In addition would אוכל נפש apply to a very particular and subjective pleasure like smelling incense? What about a rare pleasure that anyone could enjoy if only they had access to it?
