Description

For Masechet Ketuvot 3b & 4a we will analyze various aspects of the sugya of 'the father of the groom died before the wedding'. This sugya is predicated on 4 different Halachik principles the establish the relationship between the days of Simcha & the days of Aveilut. Why does this לישנא reject the previous one? Once the seuda was prepared, if lost, it cannot be replaced & a wedding without a seuda is lacking in the very Kiyum of Simcha. To prevent such a situation Chazal permitted rushing the wedding to begin the 7 days of Simcha & save the seudah, & delaying the burial & the 7 days of Aveilut. How could the Chachamim accomplish this, after all the Geonim opined that the first day of Aveilut is DeOraisa? We will analyze 4 ans's to this q'.
