For our study of Masechet Ketuvot 5b, we will address the question: what are the Halachik issues regarding consummating a first marriage on Shabbat? The sugya formulates a basic question regarding דם בתולין, is the blood collected or absorbed? There are three approaches as to how to interpret this sugya. One, from the perspective of חבורה as a sub-category of נטילת נשמה. Two, from the perspective of מפרק. Three, from the perspective of צובע. We will analyze the major breakthrough of Rabenu Tam regarding the relationship between Chabura and Netilas Neshama. The blood itself becomes the חפצא של מלאכה. This will explain our sugya of BeIlah Rishona as well as the sugya of milah on Shabbos.
