This is the second part of our series on the Halachik concept of Geirus. We seek to understand the nature of Geirus before Matan Torah, dating back to Avraham Avinu and his deciples as well as the Jewish nation in Mitzrayim. We will dedicate most of the shiur to a study of the unique approach of Reb Naftali Trup who divides Geirus into two dimensions: משפחת ישראל וקדושת ישראל. The first relates to Yuchsin, i.e. the area of Halacha that determines family relations, who is Jewish and who is not. The second relates to the obligation of Taryag Mitzvos. Only one of these aspects applied to the Geirus of our ancestors prior to Matan Torah.
