Description
Why is Basar Bechalav without נתינת טעם permissible? Shall we apply the universal Halacha of Bittul Issurim, or shall we assume that the Hlalacha of Bittul cannot apply to Basar Bechalav since היתר בהיתר לא בטיל? We will establish two views in the Rishonim on this question, and present the view that if Bittul cannot apply then the reason less that נתינת טעם is permissible is because of דרך בישול אסרה תורה. We will investigate the נפק"מ suggested by R' Akiva Eiger: is one permitted to cook milk & meat if there's not enough milk for נתינת טעם? Does the principle אין מבטלין איסור לכתחילה apply in this case? It will depend on our two definitions.
