Description

In this shiur for Masechet Berachot 16b we will study the sugya that addresses the following q': what allowances does Halacha guarantee the employee so that he can fulfill his religious obligations of Tefilla, Kriat Shema & Berachot over food, without violating his contractual commitment? Rashi assumes that the Rabbanan will require the laborer to fulfill his minimal obligation within a limited duration of time without suffering any loss. The employer must allow his worker to do so. Those obligations that are Derabanan must be dispensed with. Thus ברכה לפניה will be waived, but Birchat HaMazon which is DeOraita must be recited. The challenge of this sugya is to define an obligation as DeRabanan & dispensable in this context.
