Description

For the mishna & sugya of Masechet Berachot 16a, we will analyze the Halacha of workers vis-a-vis Kriyas Shema and Tefilla. In the first case, the workers are high up on a tree, must he come down for Kriyas Shema and Tefilla? In the second part of the sugya the issue is may the worker continue his work, or must he take a break from his work for Kriyas Shema and Tefilla? We will discuss two concepts: Kavana Bi'Tefilla & shema, on the one hand, and קריאה של קבע on the other. Although these concepts are related, they are different. The 1srt concept establishes a minimum kavana for the first Pasuk or Beracha. The 2nd concept has to do with the balance of Shema & Tefilla. The classic Brisker distinction bet מעשה & חלות will play the major role.
