Description

For Masechet Berachot 13a we will study the two-fold controversy between Rebby & the Rabanan regarding the acceptible language for both Kri'as HaTorah & Kri'at Shema. Rebby allows Krias HaTorah in any language but Shema must be recited in LaShon Kodesh. The Rabanan reverse it; Torah requires Lashon Kodesh but Shema can be recited in any language. We will study this debate in conjunction with the Machlokes Rabanan & R' shimon ben Gamliel regarding the writing of Torah She'bi'csav, can the Torah be written in any language or only in Yevanis? What is the relationship between our sugya in Berachos & the Mishna in Masechet Magilla?
