This is the first if a two-part series on the Aggadeta of R' Shimon bar Yocahi regarding the Halachik permission to confront evildoers in this world. The Maharsha interprets this sugya in the framework of the mitzva of Ushmartem which enjoins us to avoid situations of possible danger. Certainly there is a likelihood that the Rasha will strike back and take revenge. However many verses in the Torah indicate that one must avoid confrontation with Reshaim. The sugya will suggest a number of solutions to this problem. There are different categories of Reshaim & different types of Tzadikim. Many variables play a role in the decision making process regarding how & when a Jew may initiate a confrontation with Reshaim. We will complete this sugya
