We will study the great controversy between Rebby Yehoshua & Rebby Meir over the question: did Hashem reveal to Moshe Rabenu the secret of reward & punishment? he Malbim's profound analysis of this controversy has R' Meir establishing 2 revolutionary ideas: that man is, to a large extent, controlled by natural law, and that the Divine Being plays a passive role allowing nature to run its course. While R' Yehoshua agrees with the basic principles of R' Meir, he opines that Hashem works within the framework of nature engendering concealed miracles in order to guarantee justice & protect the Tzaddik. In the second half of the shiur we will study the controversy re: Moshe covering his face when Hashem was ready to reveal His Countenance to him.
