Description
Rabenu Yona at the beginning of Masechet Berachot addresses the issue of the controversy between Rav Amram Gaon & R' Yona himself regarding a Birchat HaMitzva on Kriat Shema with the Nusach of 'Asher Kidshanu Be'mitzvosav'. This comes up in the case where he already recited Birchs Kriat Shema before Tzes in Maariv, and is not reading Shema in his home after Tzeis. Does Kriat Shema fall short of any other mitzva? All Mitzvot require a Birchat HaMitzva, so why not Shema? In this shiur we will try to present a cogent thesis to explain the nature of this controversy.
