Description
The addition of Baruch Shem Kvod Malchuso LeOlam V'ed to Kriat Shema was established by Yaakov Avinu at the end of his life. Is this recitation an integral part of the "cheftza" (i.e. Halchik entity) of Kriat Shema? Or is it a separate kiyum unto itself? We will dedicate our study to an analysis of the Rambam who clearly defines Baruch Shem as a "shevach" (praise) and indicates that we are dealing here with an independent kiyum rather than a "cheftza" of kriat Shema. Hoe do we reconcile this with the Poskim that establish that the recitation of Baruch Shem is indispensable to the kiyum of Kriat Shema and that the status of Baruch Shem is as severe as that of the first pasuk of Kriat Shema?
