Description

Elul is the month of crying. The gates of teshuvah (return) are always open like the ocean. We cry when someone we love dies because we do not have the strength to deal with the person's absence. The cheshbon (accounting) of what we have lost spiritually in our lives can help us to do teshuvah. The final redemption depends on the crying of Rachel. The descendents of Esav have success in this world because of the three tears he cried. From Elul to Sukkos, Hashem gives us the light to see who we truly are. We just want to return to being innocent and simple Jews.
