Description

Yerushalayim is also a time of the year. Slichos is metaphorically approaching the gates of Yerushalayim. There is a way to knock and a way not to knock on Hashem's door. Gaiva (arrogance) is the beginning of man's entanglement in bad middos (character traits). Hashem cannot live in the same world with an arrogant person. When a person leaves the world, the neshama (soul) lets out a silent scream of regret. We should go into slichos having let go of our arrogance and what we think we deserve. Hashem remembers what we forget and forgets what we remember.
