Description

Why do we have to learn about midos (character traits), faith, shalom bayis (peace in the home)? Why is it not enough to just know how to be an "ehrlicher Yid" (an honest Jew)? The neshamah (soul) of a person is a vessel to receive the light of Torah and Hashem's communication. The Medrash in Parshas Trumah says: "When you get the Torah, I (Hashem) come with it." Torah is not merely a subject. Transforming Hashem's Torah into MY Torah. The Torah, also called "mayim" (water), wants to reside in a holy vessel, a Torah Jew. Learning Torah, being shomer Shabbos, yet cheating in business at the same time. How is it possible that somebody talks - even in learning - during chazaras ha'shatz (repetition of the shmoneh essreh)? Gezel akum (stealing from gentiles) contributes to our long exile. A dishonest person is not the right vessel to contain the Torah, because and impure container does not fit Hashem's holy Torah. It is not enough to merely study gemarah (Talmudic texts) and halachah (Jewish laws), we have to learn the "adam" (man), the human being
