Description
The beraita of 'mai chanuka' indicates that the Menora lighting of the Chashmonaim was an act of 'chinuch' dedicating the Menora in the Mikdash. In this essay we will compare the two Batei Mikdash & explain why the 2nd Mikdash superseded the 1st. This reflects the concept of "mutual destiny" between Yisrael & the Torah insofar as the two are one. The destruction of the 1st Bayis inaugurates the historical period of the People exiled from their Land & spread throughout the globe. This is reflected in the nature of the Torah & the ability to study Torah. Ezra HaSofer plays the pivotal role in this transition. We will see that the 'minus' and Avoda Zara of the 2nd Bayis period is fundamentally different than 'Elilus' idolatry of the 1st.
