Both Rashi & Rambam require tzeis hakochavim for Kriat Shema Deoraita. Although the berachot for Kriat Shema are derabanan, nevertheless, these brachot are unique, & integrated with the recitation of Shema, for a new mitzva, an entity of Kabbalat ol Malchut Shamayim unto itself. In thisa shiur we will study some of the uniqe Halachot that apply to Birchat Kriat Shema. We will proceed to analyze the view of Rabenu Tam on Zman Kriat Shema Deoraita; Rabenu Tam establishes the time in the evening based on the view of Rebby Yehudah that the latest time for Tefillat mincha is Plag. Since Rebby Yehudah is based on Korbanos, the Rishonim fail to understand how Rabbenu Tam equated Zman Kriat Shema with Zman Tefilla. We will try to explain R' Tam.
