Description
In this shiur we will study one of many Teshuvot (responsa) written by a follower of HaRav Moshe Feinstein zatza"l establishing the Halachik opposition to orthodox Rabbis serving in Conservative synagogues. In this particular Teshuva, the author quotes a ruling of our Rebby, HaRav Yosef Dov Soloveichik, forbdding the participation in Rosh HaShana sevices in a conservative temple even if it means forfeiting the mitzva DeOraita of hearing the shofar. We will try to understand the Rav's ruling and how it can be reconciled with a different ruling of the Rav allowing a Rabbi to serve in a shul with mixed seating. In the last part of the shiur we will demonstrate two distinct approaches to the question of how to pasken Halacha in our time.
