Greetings R. Levine, it's nice to see you up on YUTO! Your essay struck a chord. My grandfather's journal (American married to a naturalized European Jew; in Germany 1930-ish and '45 on) doesn't mention her decimated Polish side, or her French side's years in hiding; Only political prisoners disappearing and $ reparations to France, Britain w. 3 pages later "I forgot to mention the Jews" but not lives lost. Just rebuilding, rations, army bases. Yet sadder given the weekend. --JEH
