In this Halacha shiur for Parshas Mishpatim, we will study the sugya of Tza'ar Ba'alei Chaim, which is derived by the Gemora from the mitzva of Prika written in Parshas Mishpatim. In contrast to the mitzva of Te'ina which has no element of Tza'ar Ba'alei Chaim, relieving the animal of its heavy burden is an obligation vis-a-vis the animal itself regardless of the fact that the owner of the animal is not interested in aiding the Perika or if the owner was negligent in placing such a burden on the animal, or if he is a non-Jew. Is there a difference if the Tza'ar is relatively limited? May man benefit at the expense of the animal's suffering? What about avoiding a loss? Can any Issur be violated for the sake of avoiding an animal's suffering?
