The Brisker Rav (HaGriz) & our Rebby, the Rav, had two different attitudes towards the State of Israel. The heart of the issue is: Does Halachik man relate to a secular State in the land of Israel? For the Griz, the State is a non-entity since it is a reality that is disconnected to the ideal constructs of Halacha. For the Rav, Halacha encompasses the totality of reality, no concrete reality is beyond the potential for Halachik sanctification. The establishment of the State is the single-most important event in post-shoah modern Jewish history & presents a tremendous challenge to our people.
