The opening story of Vayetze - a single Parasha which has the literary structure of a pyramid - is Yaakov's foundatonal vision at Beit-El. Although the contents of that prophecy are of core meaning for Yaakov's life and progeny, the preface and coda to that scene speak volumes. Based on the work of Prof. Yehuda Elizur z"l, we look at some unusual nuances in the story and in Yaakov's words and use them to compare and, ultimately, contrast, this story against the story of Migdal Bavel (Beresheet 11:1-9). Both stories are enriched by the comparison.
