Description

The double-promise of children and Land, which consistently inform the Divine pact with Avraham, Yitzhak and Yaakov, is presented in sequence in Beresheet 15 - but the sequence is problematic, as Avraham counts the stars (presumably, nighttime) followed by a scene where the sun sets. The various resolutions to this seemingly mundane issue, addressed by nearly all of the major commentators (medieval as well as modern) open up the door to much deeper issues about God's promise(s) to Avraham
