My revered Rebbe & Mentor, R' Yehuda Amital זצ"ל, who's Yarzeit is this Sunday, was fond of telling the following story: Once upon a time there was an important rebbe who passed away. After the shiva, his eldest son was appointed rebbe, and he immediately began to change customs; the shape of the shtreimel, the hours of prayer, etc'. The senior rabbis of this Chassidic group approached him, and asked: 'Rabbi, why do you change your father's customs?'
He answered; "A change from my father's customs? My late father changed from what his father did, and this is how I behave; just like him '… ".
