Balak Korach

Description

The story of Korach involves three scenes where members of a group are killed - Korach's 250 men by fire, Datan and Aviram's group by being swallowed up by the earth and 14,700 people who complained about...all of these deaths! This plague, along with the plague that killed 24,000 people in Divine response to the worship of Ba'al Peor and the 70,000 people who died as punishment for David'census (Shmuel II 24) was stopped by human intervention - Aharon's Ketoret, Pinchas's zealotry, David's offerings. What are the implications of these narratives and the human intervention in each case for our understanding of Divine Justice?
