Parsha:

Description

The exegetical principle that the Torah does not follow a chronological sequence - אין מוקדם ומאוחר בתורה - is nowhere clearer or more explicit than in two dates given in Sefer Bamidbar; yet the principle is quite clearly employed throughout the Sefer - as well as in Shemot and Vayyikra. We explore reasons that the text would present events as they are in Bamidbar, teaching a lesson that overrides chronological considerations.
