Description

Just before beginning the "Arami Oved Avi" section of Magid, we thank God who is "Shomer Havtahato" - Who kept/keeps His promise and calculated the "end" in order to fulfill the Berit bein haBetarim. The text reads "הקדוש ברוך הוא חשב את הקץ", and God's calculation was a one-time consideration in the past. In the text used by numerous Rishonim (including Rambam), the text reads "הקדוש ברוך מחשב את הקץ" and God's calculation is presented in the present tense. We investigate the difference between these two versions, distinguished by a single additional letter and how we can view the entire Seder experience differently as a result of this version - and how this sheds light on the "deep prophecy" of Berit beni haBetarim (Beresheet 15:13-16).
