In a well-known story we know that Lot’s wife transformed into “a pillar of salt” when she looked back at the destroyed Sodom. We discussed the possible symbolism of ‘netziv’ and salt, and what they represent in terms of her/Sodom’s outlook on life. As opposed to Avraham, whose mission in life was inclusivity, progress and continuity, they were ‘stuck in their ways’, kept to themselves, and -in the case of Lot’s wife- couldn’t move on from her life in Sodom. In that way we learned that ‘pillar of salt’ is the Biblical way of saying ‘stick in the mud’
