Even if kept out of kodesh , very much of non-Torah and non-Jewish culture academia etc. is "shmutz" "tumah". The yefas toar (=yafyifuso shel yefes = secular studies) will often turn out not to have any yofi/beauty once the externals (hair and nails) are removed. If they insist on taking the yefas tayar (=yafyifuso shel yefes -even after she removes the hair and nails), they get a ben sayror umayra. The Rav almost explicitly said a chinuch method a/o hashkoffa that integrates secular values, and identifies itself as part of secular society, is doomed to failure.
