  1. Title: Bishul Akum and Potato chips
    Author: False == 1 ? Anonymous : Mark Hanan &##44;

    Hi Rabbi. I just listened to your shiur and it was beautifully explained however I read the tshuba of rav belsky and he emphasizes a lot on the fact that since FRIED potatoes are not Oleh al shulchan melachim no matter how you cut it even though cooked potatoes are oleh potato chips are not gonna be a problem because it’s fried and again fried is never oleh. Which the Rav basically explained as well. HOWEVER: at the time Rav Belsky wrote the tshubah he was clearly of the opinion that French fries are not oleh because he says “and since fried potatoes are never oleh no matter how you cut it...”. Which is great but I heard with my own ears from rav belsky’s tz”l mouth 5 years ago that today French fries ARE OLEH! However at the time I didn’t know anything about the potato chip raid to ask this question. But now that I do it should come out that the potato chips are asur!!! Because there IS a way that fried potatoes are oleh (i.e. f they are made into French fries). I therefore believe that if one would ask Rav Belsky today if potato chips are a problem he would agree according to his reasoning that they ARE a problem. If the rav agrees or not I would love to hear why yes or why not? Thank you for your time.
