Description

The aftermath of חטא העגל - the sin of the golden calf - includes an unusual mention - 3 times - of the "jewels" that Bnei Yisrael wore at Sinai Not only are these three mentions surprising in context, an unusual and rare word is used to represent these jewels - עדי ("Adi") - a word which makes its first appearance in Tanakh in our story, then appears again in the rhetoric of Yeshayahu, Yirmiyahu and, most notably, Yehezqeel. A survey of these passages suggests a surprising meaning of the word and a possible solution to the odd sequence in the shadow of Sinai.
