Description

The odd "encounter at the lodge", coming as Moshe (and his family?) makes his way to Egypt to begin the process of Yetziat Mitzrayim, is a puzzling and inscrutable passage. Why was Moshe under a death threat? Why was he taking his family to Egypt? How was he saved? Who was circumcised in this scene? Using Rambam's approach to the various "prophecy-standards", we propose an integrated read of the entire passage, beginning at v. 18, immediately after the "Sneh-inauguration".
