Description

The character of Haman is developed from the ego-starved tyrant of the Megila to the devoted anti-Semite of the Midrash to the various caricatures of sermonic-homiletic history. An inquiry into the textual sources for this evolution and a few examples from the rabbinic period are presented in our analysis of this demonic character.
