In this Hashkafa shiur for Tisha B'Av we will attempt to compare the sins of the generation of the destruction of the First Bayis to the sins of the generation of the destruction of the second Bayis. It seems from Chazal and the later generation was worse than the earlier generation. This despite the fact that the earlier generation was guilty of the cardinal sins, whereas the later generation was guilty of the sin of שנאת חנם which seems to be relatively 'light'. We will explain that the problem is not the specific sin - which can be observed & measured - but rather the middah & the inner attitude, the פנים rather than the חוץ. The earlier generation had an inner goodness & a belief in השגחה. The later generation was corrupted by חמדת הלב.
