Parsha:
Eikev

Description

The meaning of the word 'eikev' (heel) understood in the first line of the parsha is that even the heel must listen. In the ikvesa d'meshicha (the heels of Moshiach), there will be the maximal amount of chutzpah (brazenness) right before Moshiach comes from Har Hazeisim (Mt. of Olives). Hashem designs the creation so that the pure emerges from an impure place, as we see in many of the stories in the Torah. The greatest revelation of Hashem's oneness is from a place where that oneness is completely hidden. Rav Kook explains the two types of people: the 'rosh' (head) people, and the 'eikev' (heel) people. In galus (the exile) these two types are separated, but in the times of Moshiach they will be united properly. The feminine power draws the redemption down into the 'heel'.
