Description

Now, before the time of Moshiach, our superficial relationship with G-d is compared to the relationship between an engaged couple. In the time of Moshiach we will intimately relate to G-d as a married couple relates to one another. When we recite the Shema prayer (Hear O Israel) with proper kavana (concentration), G-d deems it as if we have forsaken our lives for Him. Half of our nefesh (soul) is placed in our body and half of our nefesh remains in heaven. Mesiras Nefesh (self sacrifice) is the longing of our wordly nefesh to connect with our heavenly nefesh. Moshe taught us to unify our earthly and heavenly souls through mesiras nefesh.
