Description
The Korban Tamid has a unique status in Halakha: it is mourned separately from the rest of the Korbanot, on Shiva Assar B'Tammuz as opposed to Tisha B'Av; it traces its roots, according to R. Akiva, all the way back to revelation at Sinai; perhaps most strikingly, there is a statement attributed to R. Shimon Ben Pazi that it is the most essential institution in the Torah. This shiur presents an analysis of Tamid from a halakhic standpoint, with an emphasis on the Machloket between Rambam and Ramban concerning whether it is one mitzvah or two, and developing a conceptual framework based on that dispute.
