Why wasn't Pinchas included in the original sanctification of the Kohanim at the time of Aaron & his children? Why does the Torah trace the yichus of Pinchas back to Aaron? Why did the detractors of Pinchas wish to excommunicate Pinchas? In this shiur we will study the "lumdisha" distinction of the Shem MiShmuel between the rules that apply to a Jewish Court when a criminal is accused of a criminal act, and the complex law of "Kanaim pogim bo" which gives license to the zealot to take the law into his own hand and destroy the criminal as the act is being performed. We will introduce the concept of "Avira LiShma" as well as the concept that every trait can be used for good or for evil.
