Description

In his commentary on Parshat Emor, the Ramban establishes that the Omer connects Chag HaMatzot with Atzeret, i.e. Chag HaShavuot. Indeed the days of Sfira, says the Ramban, are the Chol HaMoed of Pesach, and the latter Chag only completes itself with the Chag of Matan Torah. The Sefer HaChinuch sees the counting of the Omer as a countdown to Yom Matan Torah. In this shiur, we will compare these two approaches to the meaning of Sfirat HaOmer. The introduction of the Netziv to Sefer Shmot will support the Ramban's perception of the central role of Torah in the history of man & the Jewish Nation. Special thanks to HaRav Hadar Margolin, Mechaber Sefer Hadrei Kodesh, for many of the ideas included in this shiur.
