This shiur explores the history of tefillah, starting from just after the establishment of Shemoneh Esrei by the Men of the Great Assembly (Anshei Knesset Hagedolah) to the Destruction of the Second Temple. We discuss questions such as whether the text of the Shemoneh Esrei recited during Temple times is different than the one utilized now, and address how the people of the Second Temple era could have davened for seeming anachronisms such as the return of Temple service.
Learning on the Marcos and Adina Katz YUTorah site is sponsored today by the Goldberg and Mernick Families in loving memory of the yahrzeit of Illean K. Goldberg, Chaya Miriam bas Chanoch and by Ann Arbesfeld and family in loving memory of Rabbi Hyman Arbesfeld, הרב חיים בן אברהם ע"ה and by Francine Lashinsky and Dr. Alexander & Meryl Weingarten in loving memory of Rose Lashinsky, Raizel bat Zimel, z’l, on the occasion of her yahrzeit on the 14th of Nisan and in honor of our children: Mark, Michael, Julie, Marnie and Michelle
